Driver/Leon Teague Court Update

In Court today, Judge Burns reinstated the bond for Leon so he is out of jail. However, he is on house arrest and he has to wear an electronic ankle bracelet. He is not allowed to leave the house for any reason unless it is to go to court. If he does, the Sheriffs' will pick him up and bring him to jail and he will violate his bond again. Next court date is in a month. Updates to continue.

Food Donation Thank You

A HUGE thank you to an anonymous donor who graced us with all this cat food. We have taken on colonies that others have walked away from, so this will be a huge help.

We frequently check on colonies that we know about through out the area. A few months ago when driving and doing a check, we learned that an old man who was feeding about 15 cats moved away. Another man in the building had taken on feeding the cats, but when we looked at the bowls we saw that he was feeding them Spanish beans and rice. Since then, we have been providing him with food.
This will help so much! Thank you!!!

Your Loss, Is Our Gain

So many times when walking down the street or doing TNR in an alley. we always seem to come across an owner dump. Something we never like to see. He or she once was owned by someone, lived in an home with a roof, and now has been thrown outside to fend for themselves. It could be for many reasons, none that we could ever find to be acceptable or good enough... they needed to much attention, they grew up, they got hair everywhere, someone in the house had a baby, the excuse list goes on and on. But the ending, is always the same. Our reaction, is always the same. Our hearts break, our blood boils, we damn humanity. The cats that we find who are microchipped, we get so excited thinking we will reunite an owner with their fur love once again, but yet they never call back. Those my friends are the worst. You see, the cats who aren't microchipped and are friendly, we can at least make up some scenario in our head.

Well, we have now turned it around. Don't get us wrong, we will NEVER condone owner dumps. But for every owner who dumps, there is someone like us who gains. We are the ones who will see those smiley eyes, we are the ones who will feel the unconditional love, we are the ones who will smile when we come home after a bad day and have them to greet us. We are the ones who win!. Because what they threw away and thought was trash, was really a gold mine and we are the ones who found the treasure. And not only did we find the treasure, but now these cats have also found the pot of gold themselves.

Coco Goes To The Vet

Coco is one of the many feral cats that we take care of in different colonies. We have been caring for Coco for 6 years. We noticed recently that she was losing some hair and was scratching away at her face that in turn caused some wounds & scabs. We suspected fleas. We brought her in to Animal Care Center tonight to be checked out. We were right. Coco was fully examined and given the Queen treatment. She will be feeling great in no time! We were especially excited that her Sponsor Meowmie came along with us and did Coco's release.

Dhaemon Come Home

Not only do we do TNR and TNA, we also get a lot of requests to help owners with their Lost Cats. We believe in helping our community and educating them. There is nothing more that makes us happy, then when a lost pet is reunited with their owner.

We were tagged in a post, asking us to reach out to some owners regarding their lost cat. We happily obliged. Dhaemon is a 14yr old cat that has a brain tumor and is on prescription medicine to help with his condition. Which made this situation even more serious. Unfortunately, Dhaemon is not chipped. We spoke with the owners and gave them advice, what to do, and where to look for Dhaemon. The owners were very open and very receptive to all the advice that we had given them, especially to where we thought he would be hiding.

Well we are happy to announce that only a day later, the owners located Dhaemon and he is now back at home. They are bringing Dhaemon to the vet this morning and they are also having him microchipped. We are so excited! This is now the 4th cat this month that WTRF has helped owners be reunited with their fur babies. Welcome home Dhaemon, Welcome Home! Look at his smile, he's happy to be back.

His foster meowmie was in tears because she grew so fond of him. A sincere thank you to you both!

Leon Teague / Driver Court Update

Just got back from court. Our normal Judge (Judge Burns) was out today so they had to find a replacement judge. The replacement judge is deferring the case back to Judge Burns since he is familiar with it so a new court date will be set once again. They did not announce a new court date. However, Leon was taken into custody for 24hrs hours until Judge Burns is back in court tomorrow to rule on the no bail bond forfeiture warrant. I also spoke with the State's Attorney regarding the case and we hope to have it over soon.

Willie Scared Cat Found And Doesn't Move For Days

Meet Willie a scared cat who didn't leave his spot for 2 days. We came across Willie from a post that someone put up on social media. They were requesting help for a cat that appeared on their 2nd Fl outdoor stairs. He stayed there for 2 days and didn't move from his spot, that is until we showed up. When we saw the story, our stomachs went into knots. We contacted the concerned couple and set up a time to meet with them at their building that day right away. We went armed with canned food and a microchip scanner. Upon seeing Willie, you can see how frightened he was.

Unfortunately, Willie was not chipped. However, he was neutered clearly reiterating that he was once in a home. We noticed right away he was dehydrated and had an upper respiratory infection. His short fur was matted and he was dirty. As soon as we gave him some can food he perked up automatically and came out his scared little shell. He rubbed all over everyone and demanded to be petted. He also kept trying to get in the house. We rushed Willie straight to the vet to get the medical attention he needed.

During his exam, his age was estimated at 4yrs old and it was discovered he has a low grade heart murmur. We had the vet give him subq fluids, a convenia shot for his URI, nose drops, vaccines, a snap test to which he was neg-/neg- for FIV/FELv, and revolution. We are temporarily boarding Willie at the vet so he can rest and regain his energy until we could put him in a foster home .
